Each grade level has a weekly art class. Students are engaged in exploring creativity and developing basic skills and techniques with the use of mixed media. Classes foster an appreciation at a basic level for Art through history.

Music

Music is a part of every day at St. John the Evangelist school. Music class explores the rich heritage of both sacred and secular traditions. All children learn music theory and history. Most of all we love to SING to the Lord and each other..

Thematic units include:

  • September - November 9th: History & development of keyboard instruments
  • November 10th - December: Advent & Christmas Music - A Tale of Two Cities of Songs
  • January - March: Composers and their Music
  • April - June: The Band and Orchestra - All Together Now!

Physical Education

Each grade level meets for two classes weekly. Curriculum is design to promote a life long love of exercise. Through competiveness and sportsmanship we foster the development of athletic interest.

  • Volleyball
  • Baseball

Spanish

Pre-K Through 4th Grade engage in Spanish instruction weekly. 5th & 6th Grade engage in Spanish instruction twice a week. Curriculum provides a positive and enthusiastic interest in the continuance of the foreign language study.

Spanish curriculum Includes:

  • Basic language dialogue : colors & numbers, greeting & salutations, days & months, animals, body parts, basic commands
  • Reading, Writing and Listening Skills : pronouns, adjectives, plurals, verbs

Each grade level visits the lab to learn basic skills and engage in enrichment programs twice a week. Classroom teachers also schedule times for classes to work on special projects throughout the year. Smartboards are present in the lab and most classrooms, enabling integration of technology in all areas of curriculum. The goal is to prepare student with the 21st Century technology skills and the ability to apply these useful tools as they advance to the next levels of education.
